umbilical granuloma?

My son is 8 days old today and his umbilical cord fell off 2 days ago. everything was looking good except I'm now noticing a red bump and it's all gooey. does this look abnormal? I'm going to call the doctors tomorrow but since it's new years everything is closed and I just wanted a few opinions. thank you. btw I've since cleaned up the crusty stuff on the outside of it but I was waiting before to make sure it wasn't attached to something.

Same happened to us - dr said do NOT clean it or put alcohol on it - they did a painless cauterization in office and said no baths for 3-5 days - he’s all healed and good now

Put alcohol on it ASAP. Make sure you put it on there at least three times a day. If you see it’s burning him when you put alcohol on it take him in to see his pediatrician immediately because that means it wasn’t ready to come off and could get infected. He is almost dude for his two week appointment too, so if it isn’t hurting and he doesn’t have a fever I’d wait till then.

Something similar happened to my baby boy, at the time he was still in hospital and hadn’t got home yet due to cardiac problems  so I got them to swab it and it came back as MRSA so to be safe I would get it checked out and swabbed hope it’s nothing serious good luck
