Was the wound properly cleaned and dressed by a medical professional (in which case leaving it on for a week is normal because opening it up can cause infections) or did you just put a bandage on yourself? If the former the you need to go back to the doctor for a check up. If the latter then you need to clean the wound and use an antibiotic ointment every second day at the least.
