Sleep positions for baby
In the hospital, the doctors and nurses told me that babies should sleep on their backs and I never thought anything more about it... until my baby was napping the other day, spit up, and choked. Luckily I was watching and was able to intervene to help, but I worry about what would have happened had I not been there.
I did some research and a govt website that I came across said “Babies automatically cough up or swallow fluid that they spit up or vomit—it’s a reflex to keep the airway clear. Studies show no increase in the number of deaths from choking among babies who sleep on their backs.” But my baby didn’t automatically do either of those things!
I also have a foam wedge that allows my baby to side-sleep, but I don’t know if that’s good either...
So, what is the best way for babies to sleep? Has anyone asked their pediatrician about this or gotten any good information and/or advice on sleeping positions?
