Why isn’t there a 3rd ultrasound?

So a lot of women have been posting today that they only get two. I thought that the third ultrasound was to determine if the baby was breach and estimate size before birth. How do you know if the baby is breach if there isn’t a third ultrasound?

Well you can tell by feeling the belly ... that's how they've done it for hundreds of thousands of years . Plus most moms can tell position of baby. But any trained physician or midwife can tell by feeling the belly

My daughter (3rd child) was small so I get growth scans with this baby (number 4) at 28, 31, 34, 37 & 40weeks. With my other children I only had the usually 2 scans and the midwife palpated the abdomen for the position of baby. Woman with a higher BMI, gestational diabetes, previous babies that are either Large for dates, small for gestational age or other significant risks that are picked up at the 20week exam, or from other pregnancy experience tend to be monitored more closely with further ultrasounds.  That’s what happens here anyway 😃 X

it just depends on where you go, cause I've had at least 5 maybe 6 and I'm 26 Weeks.

Where I am the drs don’t do a third ultrasound unless complications etc. Like for my first two I had a third one cause my dr couldn’t tell from touching belly where baby was. And with this one I am asking my dr to request a third ultrasound to see if my baby’s VSD is closed so he doesn’t have to go for an echo after he’s born. (Have to go to a city over 2 hours away for that)

I ended up having an extra ultrasound around 36 weeks when I brought up at the appt that the baby was in breech postion at the 20 week anatomy scan and I was concerned about delivery. The dr felt my belly and then did the ultrasound maybe to confirm if it still was (my daughter was). I had my c-section scheduled that day. My daughter never flipped.

I think they can usually tell by feeling your abdomen to see what the baby’s position is. However, a close friend of mine and my mother both had a very late in pregnancy ultrasound to determine position because the doctor couldn’t tell, so I think it’s fairly common.

The OB I went to during my first pregnancy didn’t do a third. The doctor pressed on my tummy to determine the position, and unless you’ve been diagnosed with GDM the size isn’t that important. My current OB however does a third routinely.

they really only do third US' if medically necessary i have to have a third because she's measuring a week smaller. my other 2 i needed a third because they couldn't measure then due to them being in position earlier then usual (i have a small torso and big babies lol)

it depends on your ob I'm not high risk and I've already had 3 ultrasounds and I'm having another next week when I'll be 28 weeks.
