Is this H&M sweater racially geared? 🤔

People are talking about this sweater on social media and I don’t understand the concern. Some are saying this is racially geared and he should be recognized as a king, sure. It is just a sweater to ME and I love monkeys 🍌 🤷🏾‍♀️ — is there a growing concern here or has the society become to sensitive? 
Of note- this is not me nor do I know them personally.

if the mom don't have a problem, nobody else should IMO. My nephews are mixed and I call one my chunky monkey but it has nothing to do with his skin color. Its BC he was chunky as a baby and monkey rhymes with it lol I've also said chunky monkey to white babies....nothing racial about it. 😏😒

I think it was slightly insensitive given the history of the association of the work monkey and black people. The company should've thought this one through. But I do agree that people are making it a bigger issue than it needs to be.

Honestly, I NEVER knew that Monkey was used as a derogatory word. So to me this came off as the world being overly sensitive.

This has been beaten to death in the controversy room and the race room. I dont think and hope H&M; did this on purpose but bad move dude. Racist as hell. Your making this add in a society that is becoming more aware and sensitive to these subjects. How this even made it pass marketing is mind blowing. You have American Eagle in trouble for a bracelet which resembles slave shackles and they got a lot of backlash. So why would H&M; do something this dumb? Mind blown. It’s racially insensitive. Ignoring it won’t help.

the shirt itself isnt the problem. it's just a cute saying on a kids' sweater. the fact that someone decided to put it on a black kid and no one noticed or saw a problem there IS a problem. do you know how man people have to approve that image? a lot. a lot of people ignored this. all the people calling for more people of color at the table are right. we need that.

I don’t think it was intentionally meant to offend people/the child. I believe that it was insensitive considering the history of black people being referred to monkeys . I think people need to stop making as big of a deal out of it as they are
