Is it time I stopped working?

I am almost 26 weeks with my 5th child. Baby is measuring 29 weeks and needing to go for constant growth scans as i have a history of large babies (10lbers). I work part time at a grocery store and as a support worker. The grocery store check out chick job is surprisingly a lot more physical. I have excruciating hip and lower back pain after a 3 hour shift. With my previous pregnancy (2016) i had damaged my sacrum during delivery. Its near the tailbone. I now have sciatica. Whilst at work today my legs buckled from underneath me and i had to hold onto the cash register table thing to keep myself up. My boss gave me a fan and offered me water... theyre amazing in there but im just so sore. Im not really like it when im not working because im resting as much as i can. We do need the money but i just dont know if i can do this for another 12 weeks as planned

Can they make any accommodations at work, like the ability to sit while at the register?

Definitely request a chair. You aren’t lazy, you are pregnant!

I think it’s awful American supermarkets don’t generally let their cashiers sit if they want! It’s pretty normal in Scandinavia

I will ask my supervisor. A chair would be amazing

If you get a note from your doctor for a chair or something, they have to accommodate you. You can’t be fired because you’re pregnant and having symptoms that come with pregnancy.Talk to your doctor and ask them what they suggest. You may need a medical leave if they feel it’s necessary. I work at a grocery store too and they are more than willing to accommodate as long as I have paperwork to prove what I need. They also told me I could go on a medical leave whenever I feel I need it. Once you have the baby, your job is still safe for 12 weeks, under the FMLA law thing. If you don’t return after 12 weeks tho, if you don’t get extended for medical leave, then they can replace you. Documentation and talking to your bosses and doctors are the only ways to get what you need and make sure you’re safe at your job.
