Natural childbirth or Epidural?

Question

I am 31 wk and 3 days today and this is my first baby. I’m still torn between a natural childbirth or getting an epidural. I really wanna go natural. But I’m also terrified that I might tear or have an episiotomy done and I don’t wanna feel any of that or the stitches that will be involved. What do you all recommend? Has anyone ever had an episiotomy without an epidural?

Try going natural until you can't. That is my plan. Labor can be unpredictable, don't rule anything out 100% completely

There’s no way to know how your labor will go. And it’s pointless to make the decision now. Decide when the time comes. :)

Yes, ive had an episiotomy and tear without epidural. You don't feel it. They do a local anesthetic which stings for a second but is nothing when compared to labour. Episiotomies are RARE and they prefer you to tear naturally now. There is no guarentee you will even tear. I birthed a 10lb 6oz baby no epidural and had a 1st degree tear that did not require stitches.

I should add, my first, I tried natural but because of complications with how she was presenting, they have me an epidural at 9.5 cm which is super uncommon, but they feared emergency c section was inevitable. For me, my body calmed and she was delivered naturally. My second, I made it all of the way naturally. I can't tell you how amazing I felt to know I did it, but holy hell, it hurt. Between the two, I prefer no medication because I really felt like I had more control, even though it was very painful. I had a great doctor which helped. That being said, to each, her own. :) I'm having a third in June, and will attempt natural again.

I had both. Hands down the epidural was easier and a more pleasant experience. I don't think that's a secret. But I did it natural my second time and recovery was so much better. I had such a headache from the epidural. And you'll be sore down there either way. That doesn't change. At least for me the only thing it relieved was the immediate pain and that wasn't worth the trade off of the headache afterward.

I had both of my kids naturally (not exactly by choice) and it’s one of the greatest things I could tell people. It is very hard. It is not easy but it’s worth it. I did tear with my first one and he was 7 pounds but I didn’t feel it at all. My second one was 9 pounds and I did not tear with him. It all depends on how your labor goes.

I had a natural birth and an episiotomy. My OB cut me for the episiotomy, but my baby also tore me upward while being born (which I didn’t even know was a possibility). It seriously hurt so bad in the moment, but the pain faded quickly. When I consider whether or not I’d do an epidural next time, the pain from the episiotomy isn’t even the part that has me on the fence.

I wanted to go natural. Until I had pitocin lol. Things can change so quickly. If you want to go natural, go for it! If it becomes to much and you get the epidural, that works too! Whatever is best for you and baby 😊

I went natural with my first. you don't plan it it just happens. you can feel every little thing! and I tore really bad. and had a bunch of stitches..  with this one I plan on natural. I know what to expect but doesn't mean it'll happen. I may have a harder time and get an epidural. try not to think about it to much!
