Flu Shot & Pregnant: Did you get a flu shot this season while pregnant?

Debating on it especially since so far this season, they're saying the vaccine is only 30% effective! 😐 Of course, doctors recommend it Is this a no-brainer? 🤔😣 I'm 10w4d if it matters...

I'll take any protection I can get, even if it is only a small percentage. Getting the shot doesn't mean I won't take other precautions, like hand washing and doing things to boost my immune system.

I just commented another post about the flu shot but yes please get the shot. I would hate for you to get the flu especially while pregnant. I’m an RN and I helped resuscitate a 4 year old today in the ER, he was in full cardiac arrest due to influenza. This years strain is particularly bad. The shot may not completely prevent you from getting the flu but it will lessen your risk of further complications as well as reduce the severity of symptoms and help with quicker recovery!

The flu shot will only protect you on previous strains of the flu. If you catch the flu after the shot then you probably have a newer strain. This years Aussie Flu has killed over 600 people (its extremely bad this year) I’m getting it no matter what so that our baby will be protected a bit since he’s due to the middle of our winter.

This season is a serious strain of flue. The reason why it isn’t always as effective as other years is because it mutates every year and the cdc is basically “guessing” how the strain is going to mutate. I just spoke with the doctor about this year’s strain and she said the kids who have had the flu shot that came in with the flu were not nearly and sick as the kids who did not get the flu. My nephew did NOT have the flue shot. He ended up in the er. My son is only a few months older. He was around the same people my nephew was and my son did not get the flu. My nephew has been so sick since he got the flu. He’s still not fully over it and it has been a month. This flu is strong. I would HATE To see a newborn get this strain of flu without any type of protection at all whatsoever. And don’t forget, last year people didn’t stop getting the flu until MAY! With my first my baby was born in July and I didn’t get the flu vaccine because I just was too lazy. Then I ended up getting the flu (after I had my son) my son had the flu shot though. AGAIN he did not get the flu from me. I was WIPED out when i was not pregnant and an otherwise healthy woman. This year I am pregnant and having a March baby so I made sure to get the flu shot because I don’t want to feel like I did.

I'm not really planning on it. It's dying down here finally as it started early and baby isn't due til June. we'll also be moving so I won't be working with kids anymore or living with my mom who works with kids so exposure will be very minimal. I got the shot once and got the flu that year after never having the flu before in my life and never having it since. My dad even had it this season, live in the same house, he would never cover his mouth when he coughed and was always touching everything of everyone's even though we told him not to, to avoid spreading it. I still didn't get it. lol
