Maternity leave... FMLA... short term disability... WTF

Hello ladies!

My company doesn’t offer maternity leave. One might assume I should know this and I am usually all over this type of stuff, but I work for a healthcare/medical institution and assumed they were similar to my previous company... I didn’t think I needed to prepare in this way.

BOY WAS I WRONG! So now they tell me to take FMLA but that’s not a paycheck. Then they said get short term and I applied, to be denied because I’m pregnant. I thought that whole being denied because of pre existing conditions was over, but apparently not! So has anyone experienced this and what did you do for a backup source of income??? Smh I am in a weird space. I feel like companies should honor women having babies as a standard by now. This is supposed to be a joyful time not a stressful time. All I have now is PTO which isn’t going to cover much. People are typically out at least 6-8 weeks so no paychecks for me. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!
