Learning how to talk to kids?

I'm only 24 and won't be having kids too soon but within the next 5 years I hope. But I really struggle with them.

I have social anxiety and am a really awkward and shy person anyway. But for example my boyfriends family has a three year old and we recently went to visit them. I just found it really hard to play along and everyone else talks in these high pitched baby voices and I just feel too awkward to do it and like they are all judging me.

I'm just worried and curious. Was anyone else bad with kids but then were fine with their own? I'm hoping with my own I will learn but slightly worried I'll just be terrible!
