39 weeks and brown blood??

Yesterday all day i had some uncomfortable cramping that felt like menstrual cramps and felt like i was about to start my period. No back pain or abdominal pain so didn’t pain much attention. Then i also got lightening Crotch that would stop me in my tracks at times. Well i went to bad and woke up at 2am to pee and when i wiped there was brown blood and quite a bit of it (no mucous involved just old colored blood). My on call doctor said it’s normal and means I’m dilating more (already at 2 but didn’t experience this) and may go into labor soon. Does anyone else have experience with this??
