When to test before expected period?

My aunt is an obgyn and explained when I started ttc that the earliest you can possibly get a positive or get symptoms is 7-8 days past ovulation. It takes 6 days after ovulation for the egg to travel down and implant, and then for it to start giving of enough HCG for a positive test. But even then, some women don't implant until later (it can occur anytime between 6-12 DPO) so you can potentially get negatives and not get a positive until 14 DPO. Long story short- the longer you wait, the more accurate the result, and if you test early don't let a negative surprise you. 
When I got my positive I was 17 DPO, and a week late for my period. So waiting it out can help. But if you decide to test, just know some get positives soon, some have to wait it out. So don't worry if you get a bunch of negatives at first. You aren't out till aunt flow shows.

5 days is the earliest. First morning pee, or a 4 hour hold. And just remember, it’s not super accurate, so you just may be too early.
