Epidural?

Has an epidural ever caused someone to have severe back pain that does not go away? I have previous back issues so thinking maybe I have to do all natural birth.

I have horrible back pain anyways, and then epidural didn’t add to that in anyway. I will tell you, I had a new Mom friend tell me the epidural “ruined her back”, but then I watched her breastfeed once and realized she had really bad posture while feeding and I think that may have caused her back pain. Sure enough, she said by the time Baby was 2 (and she had been done breastfeeding for a little while) her back was “better”.

I’ve also heard that, but I had an epidural and it was the best thing ever. Ive never had any back pain from it, but I’m sure it depends on your anesthesiologist. My hospital had one making the rounds 24/7 and that was her only job, so she was very skilled.

I had a really bad back before my epidural. My back was hurting SO bad afterwards but Now I have less backaches then before!

I didn’t have any negative side effects from mine. In fact, if epidurals weren’t a possibility I wouldn’t be pregnant with my 2nd right now. I was one of those “I’m doing it 100% drug free!” People and when my 4 minute long contractions had 10 less than seconds between them, I was done with that shit. To me, even back pain for years afterwards would be worth it. To each their own - I feel like everyone has such a different experience in labor that you need to make the decision on whether or not you want to risk any side effects based on whether or not you can handle what is happening in that moment.

I had 3. The first 2 were fine. With the third, I suffered for over 4 years with back pain before it eased up some.

I am 3.5 weeks postpartum with baby number 5 and still am getting pulsing pains in my spine from the epidural. It’s normal for a while.

I’ve had two. and I had back pain from long before I had kids. The epidural never gave me any issues. If anything being pregnant causes back issues. Not the epidural.
