Should I send him back?

Back in August I adopted a beautiful dog named Bracken, my boyfriend and I decided that it would be a nice time to get our other Dog, lola, a friend to play with but honestly Bracken has come with alot of hassle that my boyfriend is now fed up with. We can't take both dogs on a walk together unless we're both there and it's hard to relax after a day at work because the dogs are always loudly playing. He's even started chewing my boyfriend's shoes. My boyfriend wants to take him back but I'm not sure, I feel like it would be giving up to soon but I also don't want to be selfish and keep him from finding his perfect home. I absolutely love both dogs to pieces.

Dogs aren't toys that you can just return to the store when you get tired of them. It sounds to me like he expected to get a new dog but not have to put any effort in to training him, which is simply never going to be the case.
Bracken just needs a little time, love, and training. Unfortunately they're always going to play and they will be loud when they play. That's just a fact of having dogs. But you can get different harnesses/leads and work on leash training to handle the situation while walking, and you can train him not to chew shoes (which he's probably doing because he's frustrated with your boyfriend. Dogs only have so many ways to tell us how they're feeling and at times these methods are destructive).

Its possible to avoid the chewing by putting the shoes up. As for their playing loudly you wanted a playmate for her but you didnt expect the action of playing to be loud? I have two dogs my female is 2 months older then my male and I got him at 8 weeks and same with her. There was only about a month and a half of her being an only dog as when I chose him I took her to play with him at the house where he was. Both are medium/large dogs and they play and it is loud but its never silent when dogs play unless theyre small dogs. Sounds like issues you will have with any other playmate you get her with the exception of the shoes. The walking thing is simply fixed by adjjusting the situation. Get head leads for them both and itll cut back on pulling ect. Also routine and patience will slowly adjust the issue as they will settle down and walk better.

If you weren’t sure if the dog you already had was going to cope well with you getting another dog, then you should’ve held off on it. Dogs are like furry kids. He might be acting up more than usual because he’s not the only one. 🤷‍♀️

You just got him and put him into a new home, what do you expect? He hasn’t been taught the rules yet. Dogs are like kids, you have to teach them. You can train him not to chew and how to walk properly on the leash. Dogs are loud when they play, why is that a problem? That’s what you got him for.

Please don’t send him back. Someone else already dumped him once, don’t be another person who gave up on him. My husband and I adopted a second dog in November - he’s a lot more work than my first dog and a lot larger, but we made a commitment when we decided to adopt him. Dogs are like toddlers, if you don’t want them getting in things, the adults have to put it away - you can’t get mad if you know he eats shoes and you continue to leave shoes out. We have a special place we keep toys for the smaller dog so I don’t get mad the big dog destroys them. Since there are two of you and two dogs, you should each take one while walking - look into different types of harnesses or leader collars. Do you have a fenced yard? Through them outside to get some of that energy out. He looks like he has some Shepard in him, which is a high energy breed. You adopted him for a purpose (as a playmate), I know two dogs are louder and more annoying, but please keep him, it’s not his fault, he’s doing exactly what you adopted him to do. Treat your dog like your child. It was his decision to adopt him, he can find time to take care of him. You can’t return a child, nor can you return a dog.

You buy a dog expecting it to be quiet and not make a mess once in a while....sounds like you’re part of the problem. Dogs are not toys that you can just take back if you aren’t having fun with them or because they annoy you once in a while. Your dog that you had getting along with this dog is an amazing thing! You shouldn’t be annoyed they want to play, be fucking happy they get along! Get him a pair of cheap shoes from the store and make this the shoes he’s allowed to play with. Don’t give up on an animal that literally looks at you as its best friend, that’s just horrible and sad that you could even think to give up on an animal so quick that isn’t even doing anything wrong.

First of all, he’s a dog... and a big dog so OBVIOUSLY he’s gonna play loudly and probably roughly. You didn’t adopt a chihuahua. Come on. You can’t relax after work cause they are loud? Whats gonna happen when you have kids? Are you guys planning on returning them too? Lol 
Second of all, he chews on shoes? Probably you guys haven’t given him the proper attention or care. He needs toys. Dogs who chew on shoes either are bored, don’t have toys or need attention. Which to me, sounds like it could be all 3 of them. 
I think you and your bf should be more considerate. Get him toys, teach him manners and just be patient with the animal you adopt it to keep your other dog company.

Just put the shoes up? I couldn’t walk 2 dogs alone, especially if one was as big as he is. Dogs are a big responsibility and you cant just get one and decide it’s too much work so lets give it back. I took in a stray straight from the streets and let me tell you, some days I wish I could give her up. She chews underwear, clothes, shoes, she’ll chew just about anything you leave in your floor but she loves me and at the end of the day I still love her no matter what. Dogs are not kids, they don’t understand English so when they do things wrong you have to train them. If your not going to put in the effort of training a dog and taking the time to love it than why waste your time and the dogs time by taking it in? Really the only reason you want to get rid of him is because he chews shoes and plays loud with your other dog. Just put the shoes up and problem solved, if he gets one than pop him with it and lock him in his cage, that’s how my pup learned to stop. Also him playing loud with you other dog in the house is what you should have expected, at lest the two get along and are friends. My pup plays rough with my other dog and cat all the time. Don’t get rid of a dog before attempting to train it and love it.
