‘Thank God you speak English!’

I work in sales, in a call center, for a huge American bank. I hear this on at least 1/3 of my calls every day. I roll my eyes every time because what the clients mean is ‘thank God you don’t have an accent!’ I’m wondering what CC thinks about this. Are Americans morons who can’t decipher accents? Do they hate foreigners? Do they just want jobs to stay in America? Are they brainwashed into making these comments without realizing the meaning behind them? Do YOU think/say that when someone from your bank answers without an accent?
