Not working after baby?

Question

Are any ladies out there planning to stay at home and not work for at least the first year after their baby is born? My husband and I are fortunate enough to be in a position that I could do this without putting any significant financial strain on us, and we are considering this option especially since my current wage would barely just cover the cost of childcare. I don't have any friends or family members that have done this and I feel like when I mention this idea to some of them they act like this is lazy and a very unique, old fashioned choice. I guess I'm just trying to see if there are other women in this situation and how common it is in your social circles for women (or men) to stay at home with their baby for the first year or longer after baby is born.

I will be staying home for the first few years ( we hope ) first 2 years for sure ! My husband makes enough to support all 3 of us when baby is here . And were lucky enough to rent off my parents and pay next to nothing . Which is awesome ! But I don’t see it as lazy. I don’t want other people raising my baby ( which is my opinion sorry if it offends anyone ) . I actually quit my job when I got pregnant due to having super bad winters here and driving 45 mins to and from work each day plus I worked with super shitty chemicals , so we agreed it was best . Even if iwas working my wage would cover day care with a bit left over . Maybe like $60 a month so there wouldn’t be a point in it for us . My husband and I discussed his a lot ! Doesn’t make us lazy at all! Makes us human if we want and are able to do this 💕 chin up momma 😊😊

I’m staying home for 6 months after baby is born before going back to work, I’m extremely fortunate enough that in my country child care cost is 95% covered. If this wasn’t this way there would be no way I could go back to work it simply wouldn’t be worth it after child care, bills and food I’d have barely any pay left over. I don’t think it’s lazy at all! Personally I think if you have the opportunity to stay home for as long as you can then go for it! You get to bond and be with bub all the time.

I stopped working when my daughter was born. There is a little adjustment period to get use to only one paycheck but it’s not bad. She’s 4yrs old now and I also have a 2yr old and pregnant with baby #3!

I have been a SAHM for 6 years now and hubbys family feels I am lazy and not productive. My husband was raised by babysitters and he never wanted that for our kids. I homeschool so our kids are with me 24/7 even at the age of 8 and 6. We are having #3 in May and once again his family disapproves. They dont believe in children either and accidentally had my husband and his sister. You have to do what's best for your family. It doesnt matter what others think. We sacrifice a lot for me to stay home, but in the end its totally worth it. My kids will look back and know I was there for them every day, and to me thats all that matters.

There’s nothing lazy about it! This is the only country I know of with working moms. In many other countries and cultures it’s customary for the Mom to stay home and take care of the kids and house hold! We are not in a position for me to stay home but if I have the chance I will 💯! Running a house hold is a lot of work and takes a lot of time ! But luckily my mom is moving with us and I work 3 12.5 hour shifts. The hours are long and physically demanding but I prefer it over a m-f anyways !

That's awesome your country covers child care costs like that and great that you get to stay at home with baby for six months. I'm honestly looking forward to it to be able to spend so much time with baby and I always wanted to be a mom. I just feel a little guilty for some reason when telling friends who seem to react like it's not a normal choice. It's good to hear other moms do it and I do think it will be great in the long run.
