Gestational diabetes

Lindsay

At week 8 I was tested for gestational diabetes and I scored 96. (Normal scale of 65-135) Is there a big chance that I could have developed Gestational Diabetes in the past 16 weeks even if I tested normal in the beginning?

Thanks in advance!

typically you don't develop gestational diabetes until around 24weeks

I'd ask to be retested, you won't topically have issues until later on in pregnancy

I’m confused about why you were screened so early on if you weren’t at elevated risk for GD? Usually they only do that for women with a previous pregnancy with GD? If you had previously experienced gestational diabetes before then yes, there is a good chance you have developed it between week 8 and now. Definitely still do the next GD screening whenever they’ve scheduled it for you

Right, that’s exactly what I was getting at - if they tested her early it’s likely because she had a huge risk factor for it, in which case of course it’s possible to have developed GD in the period of time since the first test was given. Does that make sense? She should have only been screened super early if she was in high danger of developing it, and in that case, it’s absolutely like it could develop between 8 and 28 weeks.

They do it early if you have family history of GD, or you're overweight/obese or if you've had it before.

I was tested then too. I'm on baby #4 and have never had it before. My office does one early and one later on. You typically develop it between 24-28weeks.

I’m not sure, that’s a question for your doctor. I scored a 91 and I ate donuts before going in. I took mine at 30 weeks and I was fine the entire time. I ate like crap. I think I had Oreos for breakfast daily.
