testing too early or false alarm?

I took two tests both came back negative. my partner and I had unprotected sex during my fertility window mutliple times around the 7th& 8th of Jan - 14days later i had light bleeding and pink spotting for a day and a half, 4 days before my period was due & since then I've had sore breasts, backache, fatigue and increased hunger - probably reading too much into this, maybe the spotting was my period (but that never happens to cycle). Its almost 14 days since the spotting thats why i tested - but they were both negative. Could i be testing too early? or just a cycle with a weird period?

The brain is an incredible organ. I suspected I was 4 weeks pregnant because my period was 6 days late, and I started getting all the symptoms I had with my first pregnancy (minus the sore boobs). I even came extremely close to throwing up because I hadn't eaten yet one morning (which is something that happened often in my first pregnancy). Anyways, I'm not pregnant, my brain made my body think it was a possibility and I psyched myself out. You could possibly be doing the same. Also, wait until you miss your period to test... Not exactly 2 weeks after having sex. Sperm can live for DAYS in a woman's reproductive system, and it takes a while to get to an egg (if one is there), and then one of the sperms have to actually make it through to the inside of the egg. First response tests (that come in a 2 pack of one being a pink dye test and one being a digital) are the ones I trust, but you have to wait long enough for the hcg to be able to build up to a detectable level in your urine. I recommend waiting until it's been at LEAST 3 weeks, but waiting until your period is missed by 5 or 6, maybe even 7 days would be the safest bet to know for sure if you need to test or not.
