Is birth control necessary after giving birth?

I always see many woman ask for advice on which birth control they should go on after giving birth and my only question is, is it required? I totally understand wanting to get on birth control to not get pregnant right away and stuff. But I have never been able to take birth control due to the hormones, and I don’t feel comfortable getting the non hormonal IUD as my insurance wouldn’t cover it. My doctor has not asked me about any birth control methods yet. I will stick to condoms. Will they force me to get one?
