CM question!

I’m new with tracking my cm. Is there a best time of the day to track it? Also, I was confused upon checking mine today. This morning after I woke up, and even a little later in the day, when I wipe it is clear and egg white like. BUT, when I check it by inserting my finger as close to the cervix as possible, it comes out as white and creamy. Is there a reason for that? The last time I Baby danced was on Monday.
