If a transgender man (like being a woman to a man) is in a relationship with a woman are they considered gay or straight?

Not trying to be rude this is just something I have always wondered.

To be honest I’ve always wondered this myself but I guess it’s up to the individual and whatever they consider themselves.

It really depends on how the individual wishes to define it and their sexuality. For example, a trans man doesn’t have to be gay or straight if he dates a cis woman, he could be bisexual for all we know. It’s something I’d take on an individual basis as sexuality in accordance to gender and sex is just variant from person to person.

A transgender man (FTM) is technically a man (they mentally identify as male, regardless of body parts) and being with a woman would mean they're straight. 
This is not to say that they can't also be into men, but for the sake of this situation it would be a male/female relationship

If a man is in a relationship with a woman, (cis or trans for either), that man‘s sexuality includes attraction to women. What that means is that he’s probably straight, bisexual or pansexual, because the person he is with is a woman. To claim a man in a relationship with a woman is gay because he is trans is to suggest that he is “really a woman” which is extremely transphobic and transmisogynistic. A better way of thinking about transness is to think of a man who’s told by the people around him that he’s really a woman (and possibly/likely harassed or assaulted because of this), rather than thinking of a woman who suddenly wants to be a man. The latter is simply a condescending and dismissive misrepresentation trans men.

Since trans men are men, I’d assume they were straight if they exclusively dated women, unless they told me otherwise.
