Switching to an IUD- anyone have experience?

I’m hella scared of IUDs but my arm implant makes me spot a lot and I’m considering having it removed. What’s it like having an iud? Do you notice it? Does it affect you in any negative way?

Answer

I’ve had the nexplanon arm implant, the mirena IUD, and the paragard IUD. Both IUDs were a good experience, I preferred the paragard a little more though because I didn’t get the extra hormones. I spotted constantly on the nexplanon, which I why I had it removed. The IUD hurts to put it in and to take it out, but no more than a bad period cramp. Totally worth it to have a mostly set it and forget it birth control.
