Anybody a real estate agent?

Anybody a real estate agent? I’m thinking about going into the business but not sure if it is for me. Anybody in the business can tell me how it is? And how the pay is?

My husband is a real estate agent. How much you make depends on how many houses you sell, and how many houses you sell depends on how hard you work to get your name out there and get clients. You have to be able work hard to get new clients, you can’t expect them to fall into your lap. He’s done fairly well in his first year of real estate but some new agents don’t make much for the first few years. It is a little scary not knowing when he’ll get paid next and not having a known income. He really enjoys what he does and he loves the flexibility of it since he makes his own hours. I have my real estate license but haven’t done anything with it yet. It’s very competitive and requires a lot of your own cash to start up and maintain the marketing of yourself. Pay depends all on your deal with the broker you choose, and your personal drive. It’s not steady or always guaranteed. It’s a lot of hard work. 
Personally, I enjoyed the process of getting my license. I learned a lot and worked very hard to pass that exam. But I don’t think I want to be a real estate agent. If anything, I’d preferred leasing or working with an HOA. I prefer the idea of a steady paycheck and benefits, and working for a specific company.

I know a couple who just became real estate agents. I was speaking w one of them and they said that if you really want to go into that you need to have supplemental income at first or have money saved up for at least a year’s expenses because it does take time to build a client base...

I am not a Realtor but work in real estate. The pay depends on your brokerage firm and how much you sell. It can be very cut throat. Requires a lot of self-motivation, discipline and drive. A lot of community involvement- the key is getting your name and face known. Money to market yourself.
