Babies and military?

Question

Any mommas joined the military after having a baby? My baby is 6 months old and I was thinking about it. I only want to do the reserves but it still requires 2 months basic training .. it wouldn’t be until after May when I graduate college. He would stay with my husband. I just don’t know if my heart could take being away but I know it will benefit us all in the end.. anyone have encouraging stories??? 😯

i was in the army for 7 years 3 active 4 reserve. definitely think long and hard about it. every year you go away at least for 2 weeks and drill means you are away once a month and you could be stationed hours away from your home which would mean an extra day away. also realize you can be deployed. i loved the military and all.the experiences and training i recieved. i was also deployed to afghanistan so im just being honest only join is you know in your heart that you can be away from your baby for a deployment.

I was 16 when I had my son. Graduated and joined the Army Reserves. By the time I left my son was almost 16 months old (breastfeeding till a year and weaning was more important at the time than leaving asap) I was gone for 10 weeks for basic and 14 weeks for ait. I think I was gone for like 20 weeks then it was hbl (holiday block leave) for Christmas I got to go home for like a week and a half then went back for 2 weeks and graduated. Now I don’t drill monthly in my town so I have to drive 6 hours away each month. You will have to have a POA for your son and that will just take place every time you are on orders. It’s definitely hard but totally do-able momma!
