Is labor induction bad?

Just had my weekly today at 37+6 and the doctor said that we will be setting up a possible induction date at next weeks appointment. I was pretty excited about it because I'd love to have something to actually count down to but I was doing research and found most doctors only schedule an induction if there's high risk or complications with the pregnancy. I'm in perfect health, baby too. No issues like GD or preeclampsia, tested negative for group b strep.. This is my first baby so I'm not sure what exactly is normally done. So I'm pretty curious for some opinions and experience stories.

I would question your OB about it. Some of them push for induction before it's necessary. I wouldn't do it unless there was an actual health concern. Induction is hard on the baby and on you.

Honestly it is better to let baby bake as long as they need to. The NICU is not a place you want to visit if you don’t need to.

I would say no. You don't need to be induced if your healthy. Some OB's just like to stay on schedule. It's not right or nice. Trust me you wanna go into labor naturally if possible. I would just tell him unless medically necessary you do not want to be induced. You have technically till 42 weeks to have baby. I know that sucks to think you'll go over but the babys lungs triggers a hormone which tells your body to go into labor so you want to wait as much as possible.

As someone who has had 2 inductions, I wouldn't recommend it unless medically necessary. I hope he's not doing this just Si he can deliver you at a time convenient for him.

Hi... I use to work for an OB and its totally fine if he wants to induce you of course he must have reasons to do so. Also it is up to you to say yes or no to it to, but if he feels the baby is ready then you should be ok. I've been induced twice, both if my boys where healthy and fine. Good luck !!

Why would your OB be discussing an induction when you are barely even out of the preemie timeframe? I would question that for sure. If there’s no medical need, I would decline. My practice offers elective inductions after 41 weeks, but I kindly said no thanks I’ll wait. Inductions carry risks including the increased need for other interventions and c sections, so I personally don’t find it ethical for a doctor to jump to elective inductions so quickly (and often before a woman even hits her due date!!).

Ummm that’s very strange to schedule the induction without there being a reason. I scheduled mine at my 40 week appointment, but it was for a week out because i couldn’t go past a week over due. They started with cervidil which was fine and sent me into labor “naturally” then I was given pitocin to move things along. But I had an epidural because my water broke FULLY so early on that I was in a LOT of pain and shaking uncontrollably. So I had my epidural before the pitocin which was nice! Maybe your doctor is going to schedule it in the books for after your 40 week mark just to have it ready to go but if he/she wants to schedule it before or around then then that’s totally unnecessary.

I was induced jan 7 due date was jan 10.. I had my boy jan 9... I personally would say wait and let your labor come naturally... being induced was horrible my contractions came fast and hard.. plus I needed up having a emergency c section because my baby was getting upset from all the force (along with him being big for my small frame too lol).. but really it’s also a good thing. It really all depends on what you want. Me personally, I didn’t like being induced but it was worth it

if ur getting patson be mindful of the timing for ur epidural. patson for me put me very hard fast labor. I went from a 2 to a 10 in an hr and had back to back contractions lasting a min long. but everyone is different .
