Gestational diabetes at 10 weeks

I was diagnosed very early in pregnancy with gestational diabetes. Does that mean I was diabetic before getting pregnant? Will I still be diabetic after giving birth? I gained 40 lbs before getting pregnant due to medication changes. If I loose weight can that get rid of the diabetes?

My doctor said I was likely prediabetic at least before conceiving and didn’t know it 😔 I’m overweight and diabetes runs in my family (I didn’t know it ran in my family until being diagnosed I found out a distant grandpa is diabetic on mom’s side and a great grandparent on my dad’s side).

Feeling discouraged 😔
