What to expect?

Yesterday was suppose to be a happy day. We was suppose to see our baby. We were told it was ectopic but was sent this morning for another ultrasound to confirm which it was. I was given the methotrexate. I’m not sure what to expect with it? Also the thought of trying again scares me. Any advice would be helpful.

Hello ladies so sorry to hear that you’re all going through this right now. I had my ectopic a year ago and was treated with Methotrexate on feb 19 of last year. With the methotrexate I still had the pain on my right side for a few weeks and they said to expect bleeding but I had already been bleeding for about a 5 days before they started my treatment. I had period-like bleeding for a couple of weeks and from the time the bleeding stopped it was about 3 1/2 weeks before I had my next period. I had to go in every two to three days for Hcg monitoring and then waited the three months to start trying again. They told me not to take prenatal until my hcg was zero and then resume taking them daily to rebuild my folic acid stores while we waited for the 3 months. But now, a year later we are pregnant and had our first ultrasound today. 6 weeks 2 days by ultrasound and we were able to hear the heartbeat of the intrauterine pregnancy. We did have a miscarriage as well in all of this but for me despite all that we went through and all of the struggles I’m glad we decided to keep trying. I still worry every time I have the smallest pain and I still have pains from my ectopic. I’ve been told it’s probably scar tissue though and my anatomy all looks normal and healthy via ultrasound. I hope you can find the comfort and support you need during this time and that you heal up quick with no complications or lasting effects. *hugs*

Hugs to you - I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. My experience with methotrexate was that it made me extremely tired and my joints kind of ached for a few weeks - I’d even get side cramps if I was too active. It was great when I finally started to feel like myself again. 
In terms of trying again, it is a bit scary at first (we’re six months post ectopic and I still go into panic mode if I feel too much cramping in my right side, or experience weird spotting), but you have to learn what your new normal is (like my right side is way more “vocal” when I ovulate now) and know the signs of another possible ectopic. There’s nothing wrong with waiting a little bit longer until you’re ready. 
Did your doctor offer to do an HSG to show if your tubes are blocked? Mine said they wouldn’t do that until we were unable to conceive for three more months, but I think it would’ve given me way more peace of mind if I knew my tubes were open and that I wasn’t having an ectopic pregnancy constantly. Just something to look into!

As for trying again, you’re not allowed to for at least three to four months. We’re still deciding if we want to. It’s definitely very scary.

First of all, I’m so sorry. Going through an ectopic is horrible. Did your doctor test your HCG levels and they weren’t rising properly? I had my methotrexate injection three weeks ago. I felt super nauseous the first 24 hours and then achy all over my body for about a week. Then for about two weeks I was just completely exhausted. I started feeling a little better this week.
