Convertible cribs - worth it?

Question

My husband is super into the idea, I’m more like ‘sure why not’ - are they really worth it?  Any draw backs?

My mother wanted to buy us our crib, I was only able to find convertible cribs. Make sure you buy all the pieces to convert it if you plan on doing that. I’m thinking we’ll use the crib standard for all our babies down the road, instead of converting it for one and buying more.

We got an ikea crib - it came with the piece to convert to a toddler bed. It was super easy, and we could keep using the same mattress and sheets and everything. She’ll be four in a couple months, and we just got her a twin bed because I want the crib for this September baby.

We have one! totally worth It! We transformed ours arpund 19 months into a toddler bed and we love it. Easy to transition and good quality. And I think it even transitions when she gets older for a twin bed (or ours does at least).

It’s easier to buy a crib and then go straight to a twin bed when its time. If you get a conversion, you’ll have to buy all the additional pieces right then and there or they could stop selling them before you’re ready.

Generally you have to buy an additional piece or pieces to transition the bed... If you take a long time to transition, sometimes the place stops selling the conversion peice and it can be a pain to locate.... In the end, for me, it was such a waste of money to even buy a crib to be honest... We bed share because I have a king size and EBF still. Wish we bought a CO sleeper instead of having it take up our much room and only wanting to use it as a toddler bed at some point and having issues finding the piece now. For me it would have been better to buy a co-sleeper and a grown size bed for him with  installed side rails when he got his own real bed.

We got our convertible crib, the toddler bed converter and also the conversion kit to turn it into a full size bed for less than $300. So now we will just have to purchase a full size mattress and box spring in the future

sooo worth it. My son is 8 and sleeps in his full size bed that started as a crib. I bought all the peices when I purchased the crib. Super easy to switch from crib> toddler> daybed>to full size bed.. we bought him an additional plastic drawer/shelves storage unit for his closet and that helped give him more space for clothes as he got older..

we have one that can become a twin bed but it don't come with all the parts. however we only use it for crib and the toddler bed. once our DS is big enough for a twin I plan to go bunk beds. and hopefully if we have more kids we will just use the crib to toddler again.

We bought one thinking it would be great but we ended up just buying a toddler bed anyway. 
The convertible crib attachments cost around $150 and toddler beds only cost about $50-100. Plus we planned on having more kids which meant it didn’t make sense to convert it if we were just going to be putting another child in it in the near future.
So right now I am 12 weeks preggo with #2 and my daughter is 1 1/2. We went and got her a toddler bed for $50 and plan on moving the crib to the new nursery once she transitions. 
If you weren’t planning on having more than one I still recommend a reg crib.  They are usually a few hundred bucks less and just get the toddler bed for $50 when your ready.

I bought one thinking I’d use the toddler bed and ended up having my dad build one instead. They’re a money saver so you don’t have to buy another bed when the time comes 🤷‍♀️ really the choice is all yours
