How long did you wait for help TTC?

I know that it's customary to wait a whole year after TTC to ask a doctor for help, but have any of you gone a little sooner? Some background info: I got married in October but we've been TTC since May. I've have PCOS for a little over three years and the I haven't ovulated/had a period since I went off birth control (in May). My husband and I would both really like to have this baby and I feel like the longer I wait the worse the PCOS is gonna get!
