Step parent adoption

Has anyone gone through step parent adoption ? , me and my husband are looking into it , a little back story if this helps .

My ex and me broke up before I knew I was pregnant . He has never made an attempt to be in his sons life other then if I was to move there or go visit ( he moved 30 hours away when I was 6 months pregnant ) he came a day after my son was born and that was it . I’ve flown there 2 times to visit other then that he doesn’t pay child support , doesn’t keep in contact nothing , so that being said . My hubby has been his dad since the day I brought him

Home from the hospital . He’s now turning 4 this year . These two have the greatest bond , instead of going after child support we want my husband to officially adopt my son ! We live in Canada if that helps lol . Any stories of success helps ! :)
