Silly-ish question: is it worthwhile to try writing an actually GOOD romance?

So, a lighter topic...
We all know the cliches, the archetypes, the plots that never change, and the mass market-churn-em-out mentality that makes most of them poorly written. Yet, we love romantic stories and one that was realistic enough to offer some value but fluffy enough to still be entertaining would probably be valued. Or at least so I thought for my latest writing challenge...
But do you think some genres are just hopeless? Or can all be something good?

Yes, it's worthwhile writing anything you’re passionate about. Half of the things I write will never be seen by anyone other than myself. If you want to write a romance, write a romance. No genres are beyond hope.

I've got notebooks full of my writings that will probably never see a printer, but I get ideas in my head and I love to give them life and create a new little world. It's always worthwhile to try.
