credit score help

So, I have had a rough 2 years. I have an auto loan that I owe $2,000 on that's in collections. I have a maxed out credit card that's $1,000 closed but with original loaner. If I pay $500 on the credit card to bring it to 50% credit usage will it help my score? I dont have a lot of extra money but I need my score to increase asap. Right now my score is 472 :( it used to be 650 before all the bad stuff happened 2 years ago. I'm not that old so I was in the process of building it.
