Did my OB handle this correctly?

Question

So for my 13 week checkup my Dr was going to check the babies heartbeat with a Doppler.
It had been about 10 seconds and she says “yeah I can’t find the heartbeat so we’re going to have to do the ultrasound, have you bled any?” I said no and immediately began freaking out. Keep in mind she already has me on meds for HPB. So we went in for the ultrasound 5-10 mins later and everything was fine, baby was just curled up. This bothered me because I feel like she could have used a different phrase other than “I can’t find the heartbeat”
Thoughts?

There is no other phrase... 🤷🏼‍♀️ if she can't find it, she can't find it. The baby is so small at that stage that it could literally be anywhere and she's not going to spend twenty minutes looking for it. The same thing happened to me at the same time but my doctor has a hand held ultrasound sound machine she can use in the check up room so it's less concerning. Sounds like she just speaks like a doctor and that's normal. At least she sent you for an ultrasound so you got confirmation before getting sent home

Any phrase is going to be hard to hear.  Been there with my last pregnancy 3 times.  My heart rate went up no matter what phrase they used because they all mean the same and we know it.  If you rather a doctor to sugar coat things she may not be the one for you but I personally don't see where she did anything wrong.  I'm not being insensitive,  I've been there it just Sucks to hear no matter what.

It sounds like she was incredibly insensitive. You’d think an OB would understand how scary that would be. It’s not too late to look for someone else who will make you feel comfortable.

That happened to me with my daughter and the dr said Baby isn’t cooperating and I’m having a tough time getting a read on her hr so let’s do an ultrasound. 
I was not worried at all but I would have been if she had said I can’t find the heartbeat we need an ultrasound.

When I went in for my 14 week appointment, my doctor told me she was going to listen to the heartbeat. And before she even got me up on the table. She told me not to freak out bc it can take a few minutes to find it when they are that little and also not knowing exactly where Baby was. We found my heartbeat first lol but it actually did take quite a few minutes to find baby’s heartbeat and I started to worry. But my dr found it! So I don’t 10 sec is no where NEAR long enough to “try” to find the heartbeat. I would’ve been ticked

From what I’m gathering in the states people think that’s okay... in the U.K. that would not happen/ be okay.

That’s a bit concerning! My doctor for that very reason said he would not even try find the heart beat until I am 16 weeks at least to avoid scaring me if he for some reason was having trouble finding it. I’m sorry she scared you! That’s definitely not right she could have been more discreet at least or said it in a different way not to freak you out.
