Is there such a thing as being too honest?

So I’ve been with my boyfriend for 4 years now. Over the 4 years I’ve received many gifts from him. But there have been a few times where I’ve received something that I didn’t really like. But I was never ungrateful! I always took the gifts and would thank him. And then he’d ask later on why aren’t you wearing my gift or where is that thing I bought you and I’d say oh it’s wherever. Then he would ask well did you really like it be honest. And I’d tel the truth! Well it recently happened and I told him i was sort of disappointed in a gift and he cried and I really feel like crap. And not be a person that looks for an eye for an eye but there has been times where he has done the same to me. So I say all this to ask is there such a thing as being too honest with your boyfriend????????
