UK: do you tip?

I’ve been living in the UK for 3 years, I’m a student. I still don’t know if you tip or not. I’m from Europe and we usually do tip, but I’ve never heard of it here in the UK.

From what I know, in the UK you don’t tip. Sadly in America, they think they are entitled to it because their employers don’t pay them enough. But in the UK, they are paid by the employers not the customers.

It’s not customary to tip here like it’s in the us. Here workers are paid by their employers. Tips are rarely given and when they do it’s only because the service was exceptionally good/memorable.

It's not common practice in the U.K. So don't feel like you have to but I usually like round up whatever I've spent in a restaurant or bar and just tip the extra, like even if it's as little as 10p or as much as a few pounds! But I don't always do that, I only do it if I feel I've had good service and been taken good care of :) it's entirely up to you though, it's not frown upon in the uk not to tip so I wouldn't worry too much if you can't & if you do then great!
