Newborn cloth - how many?

I’m going to be using prefolds and covers. How many would I need approximately to wash every 3 days? I’ve clothed before but never a newborn.

I think you may need more than 24. I washed every other day and I had 24 prefolds, 4 fitteds (workhorses). And I still dipped into my extra stash of flats sometimes. I think you could get away with two dozen if you’re willing to wash every other day. Otherwise, I’d personally recommend a few more. My newborn went through at least 12 diapers per day. That’s just my two cents. ☺️

Newborns seem to hate feeling even a tiny bit wet; we changed 12-14 diapers per day for quite a few months.
Also, for the first week, I’d recommend using disposeables with a wetness indicator - meconium poop stains EVERYTHING, especially nice new cloth diapers. You also might not be up to doing laundry (which is fair enough!), and if it’s your first baby, having wetness indicators on nappies helps you learn when baby needs a change, and when they want food, which takes some of the initial panic away.
Also, as time goes on, babies seem to need changing less; I bought way too many cloth diapers, and regret it.

I changed wayyy too many diapers when my LO was a newborn. I did disposable during the first two weeks. I had enough going on as a FTM, I couldn’t handle the extra stress. But now we are 5 weeks old and LOVING cloth! 
Good for you to do it as a newborn, maybe my next one I’ll be more confident ☺️

With 24 prefolds we were doing laundry every single day which is exhausting with all the other responsibilities a newborn comes with. Eat, sleep, poop, repeat! So if you have the money you might want a few more.

At least 24 prefolds. I feel like I changed at least 8 diapers a day if not more. You could always wash sooner if you needed to
