Just need to vent

My step dad has owed me money since November. I didn’t really care and I let it go. Now he keeps wanting to get the car seat bases I need for this baby. He keeps saying he’s going to get them, then last weekend he said he would just give me cash. But I never see him and when I do he never has cash.

His brother messaged me and asked to purchase the bases I needed so I sent him the info and he ordered it that day.

My step dad messaged me today saying he was going to go buy the bases today so I told him his brother already got them and my dad got pissed and is giving me the silent treatment.

Is it normal for a grown ass man to get so butt-hurt over a gift? Or am I in the wrong for letting someone else get it?
