Small correction : if it was not keeping the cool in, then the surface will get cooler on the outside. Cooler surface will cool the air in contact, and the humidity % will increase as cold air cannot contain as much water as hit one. Result is formation of water droplets on the surface coming from water container in the air. 
In one word : condensation! NOT sweating.
