Why do I get really painful contractions but nothing happens?

I’m a ftm and I expected to only have really painful contractions when I’m in labor. Is it normal to have a few bad contractions but them go away?

Those are called Braxton Hicks that you are feeling! Very normal.

They might not be BH...I go into labor, stop, then start, then stop, then start again. I was 3 cm dilated for a few days with my oldest, but my second it was for a couple weels, then labor started back up with painful contractions, but they stopped so I was sent home without being checked. Three days later I was 6cm when I was checked at my doctors office. So yes, you can have contractions, that are progressing your body, and have full blown labor stop. It sucks because the hospital just sends you home once labor stops and says you were just dehydrated. Which was not the case AT ALL.

Yea I had those during my pregnancy. My doc n fetal doc thought that I was just being dramatic to see my lil one until I had one of my last fetal appointments n they saw how strong they were. They were super pain at times but was only 2cm 🤦🏾‍♀️

I once had them for 2 hrs straight, I could even time them. I really thought I was in labor, got to the hospital but nope, not in labor, got sent home. It's annoying!
