How bad do spine tattoos hurt?

I want a new tattoo. i’m 16 and I have the wave 🌊 on my rib. my mom took me for christmas and everyone said it was gonna hurt so much but i was laughing through it. so any suggestions i’m looking at the Buddhist symbols:)

Depends on where on your spine i have words from my neck to halfway down my spine and the only part that i even really felt pain was when it got closer to my neck and it just makes your muscles tense up

I️ got this on my spine and didn’t feel any pain if I️ did, I️t was very little 
I️ also have tattoos on both sides of ribs and those were more painful then my spine
