Late on my period

I just recently had surgery. I was taken off of my birth control a week prior and it has been 3 weeks post surgery, 4 and a half weeks no birth control. And I am late for my period by 12 days. Could I be pregnant? Or is it just my body trying to regulate itself without the birth control? I’ve suffered a miscarriage and it was tough. I don’t want to get myself and my husbands hopes up by thinking I’m pregnant and turn out not to be. What do I do? Please no negativity, I need some real opinions and advice please! 😩
