Is it better to date someone with a similar personality or opposite personality to yours?

Looking at personalities only, would you say it’s better to date someone with a similar personality to your own or someone with an opposite personality to yours?
My opinion:
I think it’s ideal to date your opposite personality because they are complimentary to you. Giving where you lack and you can give to them where they lack. What’s your opinion? I’d like to know your reasoning too and if you have examples to go along with it. 😊

Theres pros and cons to both really, but Ive found with me and my SO that we are opposites. I’m more outspoken and confident and hes a bit more shy and keeps to himself but we balance each other out (I’m not sure if that makes sense.)
It all just depends on how well you work with each other and put all other differences aside. Balance is key

Thanks for you opinions and examples! 😊 I’m big into personalities and usually believe opposites attract. But I’m about to go on a date with a guy who has a similar personality to me. I usually think it wouldn’t work because of that, but I’m trying to throw out the logical side of me trying to figure out who’s be best for me based off personalities so I can give it a real shot lol.

My bf and I have the same personality and our relationship is great. we have the same taste in almost everything and so much in common it's kinda scary but it works for us. He helps me with a lot of my issues and helps me see things half full not half empty. We make each other better people. I've been in relationships where our personalities were different and it never worked cause we were such different people that all we did a lot of the time is argue

It's actually been proven by sociologists that the saying "opposites attract" is actually not that common. Most often people go for someone who is like them than their opposite but again there are exceptions. Personally I gravitate towards people like me. My SO and I are very similar.

I think opposites attract to an extent. 
My ex and I were complete opposites. We complimented each other at first, but as the relationship progressed, so did our differences. In the end, our differences were too much for the relationship to sustain itself and we ended up calling it quits after 5 years. My current SO and I are great though. We have a lot more in common than my ex and I ever did. But within the 7 months that we’ve been together, I know he’s the one I’m going to marry. I think that in order for relationships to work, you need to have more in common, personality wise and interests, than opposing. We still have our differences and that’s great because we can fill in each other’s gaps, but i think it’s because we have enough similarities between the two of us than anything else.

Well...me and my SO are both Leo’s and have have the same exact personality which is kind of annoying at times since we are both very not confrontational and shy about what we want... also introverts but other than that we have been dating almost 2 years and haven’t had a single fight !

I think it depends on what aspects of your personality you’re talking about. In many cases, I think a balance is good. My husband is the perfect amount of extrovert to my introvert, the perfect sunshiney charm to my sleepy quietness. But there are some ways in which we are similar, and I’m glad; we both have a sense of adventure, we’re both pretty open-minded, we’re both curious and enjoy learning. We also bring out qualities in each other that we might not have tapped into before; he says I make him calmer, and he’s turned me  into a cheesy romantic. We’re somehow simultaneously so different and yet so similar and it somehow works perfectly.
