Spinal block/epidural?

Hello Mamas! I’m writing to see if any of you had an epidural with your first delivery and ended up needing a c section? I had an epidural and it didn’t take the first time(just on about 1/3 of my body was numb) and they ended up having to take it out and do it again because I was going to have to go in for an emergency csection. Now that I’m pregnant again, my doctor said this time they will just do a spinal block for my section and tubal ligation. My question is, is there a big difference and do the blocks also not take sometimes? I’m terrified of getting the spinal block and not being completely numb. Sorry for the lengthy post.

The spinal is much better then an epidural.  When it is planned everything is pretty smooth.  The anesthesiologist will be in the room the whole time and monitoring it.  You will not feel anything and they will check a bunch before they start.

I had a spinal with my first c sectio after the epidural didn't numb me during labor.  It did the trick.

I had an epidural after it was agreed my induction was failing and I needed a section. The epidural was CRAP it was really hard to place (I do have a bit of weight on me) and when I went down for my emergency section it was horrendous and I was put to sleep for the delivery. 
I work in theatre - spinals are amazing. We do full joint replacements under them. Next time I have a baby it will be a planned csection, a painless easy spinal and I’ll be awake to see my baby born. 
Usually for a planned caeseran they will automatically do a spinal anyway there’s not that much difference between them

With first I had a emergency c section(2015), so I only had a epidural. But I was totally gone, what I mean by that is I was so drugged. That I was not that conscious. I just remember, them saying emergency c section and me waking up in the room while they performed the c section.  I didn’t get any more medicine, because there was so much in my body already. I delivered my second baby, Jan 17 via PLANNED c section, and I had a spinal this time. Which I was scared because I was conscious of what was going on lol my thoughts were half awake, half of me having major abdominal surgery lol honestly all I can tell you, is just try to relax and control your thoughts. Because they can’t give you, something to relax. I did panic not gonna lie, but I was just speaking to the anesthesiologist which was really helpful. When my husband had to get out to receive our baby girl. Just relax relax and it will be over when you least expect it.

I also had an epidural first and then I had to go for an emergency c-secrion. They found out that the epidural came out of my back during labor so I had to have the spinal. The diffrence is the spinal only is a one time injection that last a few hours and can be cased with morphine so the pain is not heavy after. The epidural the can put more meds in as needed over time.

I had two failed epidurals during my induction/labor. I ended up with an emergency csection and they did a spinal - didn’t feel a thing! It was great! Especially after two agonizing days of labor with no relief.
