My daughter just turned 15 months old last week. At her one year appointment her doctor said she expects her to be using around 5 words by the time she turns 15 months. Well, that time is here and despite multiple efforts by my husband and I, my daughter doesn’t say a single word! Not even mama or dada or any variation of them. I mean she babbles CONSTANTLY, it’s not like she’s quiet by any means. But she doesn’t repeat after us or show any interest in trying to say actual words. She’s developing fine (as far as we can tell) in every other cognitive and physical area. It’s like she’s just uninterested in using words. I need to make her doctors appointment but I’m dreading her doctor telling us that she needs speech therapy or something. Should we be worried? Any other moms have experience with a late talker? What else can we do to help encourage her?
