Exclusively pumping?

Question

Any moms that exclusively pump and feed baby bottle? How did you start out and what exactly is your method? I want baby to have breast milk but I’m not all about “the bonding”. I’m having a hard time keeping up with need of baby, not supply wise, but sleep wise. She feeds every 2-3 hours for 45 mins. I would rather hubs be able to give her a bottle of breast milk at night than staying awake at all hours. That might sound bad but I hope yAll understand 😞

I could be wrong but my understanding of exclusive pumping is that it is actually more demanding than nursing. Just because you husband takes over a feeding doesn’t mean you get to sleep through it. You just pump instead of nursing. You pump as often if not more often than you nurse except you have to add on all the washing of pump parts and milk storage to your list of things to do. When I went back to work I pumped while I was at work. It was a pain in the ass, 100% more work than nursing.

you'll lose more sleep with pumping, because you'll need to feed,  pump, then wash everything. I tried it for less than a week. we went straight back to nursing.

I exclusively pumped... to maintain supply you need to pump about every four hours... no longer. if you really want to help supply you need to wake up in the night to pump (but I never did) if your breastfeeding through out the day just make sure you pump after to get up a milk supply to give baby at night. I definitely get what your saying about needing a break in the middle of the night ... good luck momma

I pumped every 2 hours for 10 minutes as he got bigger it was every 3-4 for 15-20 also look into power pumping! My son wasn’t ever fed right off the boob bc he screamed me and several lactation consultants they all said either of us had issues he just didn’t want the boob, so glad for the invention of the breast pumps and bottles! I dont know what idve done without them!

It is difficult either way really, BUT - I pumped every 2-3 hours for the first three months.  Then spaced it to every 4 hours for several months.
 
Keep in mind that you will be pumping 30 minutes at a time (or until no more milk comes out after 3 pumps).  Then you bottle feed and wash bottles (and sterilize).
 
It was exhausting and do not mention going OUT.  I had a manual pump or think about WHERE I could pump while out.  Carry extra bottles or bags, and ice pack for keeping pumped milk cold.... etc.
 
Their are pros and cons for both sides.  I honestly do not think one is really easier than the other though.

I exclusively pumped my sons first 4 months because he was a preemie. (I eventually switched but fully support EP moms!)
First, you do have to pump when you baby eats or at least every 3 hours around clock while they are still feeding around the clock. I felt so much safer pumping in the middle of the night instead of handling a newborn. My husband would feed a bottle whole I pumped.
 Also recommend the phone app Milk Maid (great name, I know 🤨) to track all the milk so it’s all properly stored and used timely.

I did every 2-3 hours for 20 minutes until 10 weeks.  Now I do 10 minutes every 4 hours but my supply has always been great! I wash my pump parts once a day and just keep them in the fridge in between. My boyfriend feeds baby while I pump over night and I feed him propped up in the hoppy while I’m pumping during the day. It’s hard but totally worth it for me! I couldn’t deal with having to do formula. It’s totally up to you and what works for your schedule! Going out is hard but frankly I’m a serious introvert so I don’t go out much anyways lol. When I do go out I bring my manual pump.

I just posted a similar question!!!! Girl I support YOU for whatever will make YOU happy. I am almost 5 weeks in on EPing and it was a tough decision to come to for me. Nursing hurt me so much and we couldn’t get the latch down. It was making me really anxious and depressed but I wanted him to have my milk so badly. EPing is not easy (but what is?!) and I truly don’t have an end ‘goal’ as I take it day by day and stay proud of how much I have done so far. I typically pump while I feed him so I still get that bonding time with him! If you do decide to EP I am here for support even though I am new at this too! It has been really helpful talking to other women that are 9+ months of EPing! Good luck!!

I only pump because she didnt have a good latch! I pump every three hours to keep up my supply. I pump as needed at night! I keep my pump part in refrigerator all day and then wash once a day which saves a lot of time! :) I’ve gotten used to pumping and It does take time but its worth it to me
