Anatomy scan - what to expect?

We have the 18 week anatomy scan on Tuesday 4/17. My doctor told me it’s an hour appointment. What can we expect to happen? This is my first ultrasound!! Can anyone share what happens during that hour? Would love a play by play! So nervous!! Thanks all :)

I had an early anatomy scan for my twins last Friday at 17+4. I was in there maybe a little over an hour but she had to measure two babies. They just measure all of their parts and take like 100 pictures. Idk where you are located and if you want to find out gender but the place I go to like to make it clear it’s not just a gender ultrasound. Most important things first so they start by measuring head first then work their way down. I just waited patiently for her to get to the private parts lol and told her if the babies expose themselves we would like to know! She was very happy to let us know both our babies are little girls 😭🎀🎀my heart is so full.

They make sure the baby has all its parts...count fingers and toes and everything. Then they do a close look at the brain, heart, kidneys, take measurements of the femur and arms bones, look for cleft lip and check out the genitals. The measurements take awhile because they have to get multiple angles especially of like the heart because there are 4 chambers and it’s moving, not to mention the baby itself might be wiggling around. I had mine today and it took about 40 minutes, not the whole hour but in the beginning my baby was cooperating. Towards the end she got tired of her space being poked I think lol

I was there almost 2 hours cause someone wouldn't stop showing us his privates 😔😂. All they did was make sure he had all his parts, took measurements, checked the position of my placenta and my cervix.

That’s when I have my anatomy scan too! 😬 I’m so excited to see my little one, I haven’t gotten an ultrasound since 11 weeks and I’ll be 18 weeks the day of my scan.

I was told to drink oj, or a couple sips of coffee to wake baby up. So they can get all the parts. Not a lot of caffeine because that can speed up baby’s heart.

enjoy watching baby on the screen :) the tech probably won't talk much because they have a long checklist of pictures and measurements they need to check. they also won't tell you much sense they aren't aloud to usually will confirm gender and say everything looks good if it does (but also might not depending on the tech)
if you can't figure out what you are looking at don't be afraid to ask them they should tell you but again won't talk too much.
I LOVE the anatomy scan I love seeing all the bones and baby moving and kicking and all that so sweet!
