A good parent/adult son relationship?

I’m already feeling anxious about this- I hate the saying about a daughter being a daughter for life and a son being a son until he takes a wife.
Do you have an adult son you have a good relationship with? Does your SO have a good relationship with his parents? What helped make it good?

I don’t think that saying is true, unless he has a really bossy, overbearing wife. My husband has a good relationship with his siblings and parents. His parents live in another city but we talk to them a lot and see them a few times a year. We’ve even been on 2 overseas holidays with them.

My husband and I have a really great relationship with his parents. We choose to hang out with them all the time. They’re really nice people who are supportive and not overbearing. They don’t try to meddle in our relationship or tell us how to parent, but are always available for advice and a talk. I feel like as long as you aren’t some suffocating mother who is always trying to butt in, your son will still want to be around.

All of my adult siblings have great relationships with our parents. That saying is silly to me.
