Baby shower before or after birth and why?!

Keri

Hello ladies!

I am only 17 weeks so I know it's a ways away but it will creep up quickly!

I was at my mothers for a family dinner last night and we got on the topic of baby showers because I was passing along a message my father in laws common law asked me to pass to my mother and my mother in law about offering help with the baby shower planning. My mom told me that usually the mothers don't plan the baby shower, usually it's a friend or sister or sister in law etc (didn't know that).

I always thought, and have been to baby showers where they have them before the baby is born but my mom told me it's better to have it a few months after you give birth so it's also a "meet and greet". I assumed that people usually always have meet and greets when they either don't know the gender or when it's their second child and they don't need the gifts right away or if they have a bunch of family from out of town etc.

I'm not sure if there is a "norm" but I guess I'm just asking other ladies if they had their showers before or after the baby was born and why.

I like both ideas but maybe someone has a reason that could help me make a decision!

Thank you! ☺️
