Do you need a change table?

Question

Looking for advice from mamas for a first time mama :) 
I have read that change tables are one piece of nursery furniture that one can skip, as you end up changing the baby on a bed, couch or elsewhere?
Based on your experiences, what are your views?  If no change table, do you have alternatives to suggest? Thanks for the advice! 💜

My sister never used one with my nephew, but I still use it with my 2 year old. We never got an actual changing table, just the pad on top of her dresser.

I bought a changing table that has a ton of storage underneath because I needed some extra storage space. I use it all the time with my twins because it’s much easier for us instead of bending over the couch or their bed (husband has a bad back).

I never used one with my son. My friend had one and it became the stuffed animal holder lol

I put a changing pad on top of the dresser in her room. 
Keep in mind that sometimes you might get a little poop or something on whatever surface you change the baby on. So at the very least I’d get a few little dish towels or something that easily washable.

I got one from Ikea that has a ton of storage and the top, where the changing pad is, converts into a “chest” and I absolutely love that because we plan on him using it when he gets older for his TV or something. Then again I’m a FTM and I’ve had people tell me it wasn’t a smart purchase 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a little thing that case as an add on to the dresser. It’s pretty much a caddy that goes on top to make a changing table.

I'm only 18 weeks so I can't help but I asked a friend who has a 4 month old. She said at first she didn't use it alot but now that he's a little older she is using it. She recommended getting a dresser with one on top or plenty of storage.

I’d say it’s a necessity. For me at least. A dresser with the changing pad on top seems like the best way to go. 
But dressers can be very expensive and a changing table can be easily found for $100 or less. With my first, we had a huge closet for him in our apartment, so we opted for the changing table since it was cheaper and we didn’t need the storage space of the dresser. 
We now own our home and have #2 on the way. We got this baby a dresser for her room and changing pad on top. We still have the changing table in my sons room because we got him a tall chest of drawers vs. a regular dresser.

We bought one along with with our crib and they have have been used for our first two and will be used on this new one. I like the storage underneath. Once they get older o remove the pad and use it for toys, clothes, books and anything else I can think of. I love to be organized and see what I have, so for me they are awesome. I think it’s a personal preference really. They can be useful and ours was totally worth the $100 we spent on it!
