Etiquette Advice for Baby Shower

Looking for some advice in a particular situation. My husband and I got pregnant very soon after moving to not just a new city, but a new coast. We have no family and just a few acquaintances out in this small town.

This is our first child and don’t know anyone with hand-me-downs in any immediate vicinity. I would love to have a baby shower, not just to celebrate, but also to get a much needed jump start on acquiring what the baby needs/advice for the first few months. I can’t fly back to my family for a weekend due to my working schedule up until the baby is due.

Here’s the question: is it bad form to e-mail or post my Amazon baby registration to family and very close friends? Has anyone else been in this situation?
